In the Android app, Download PDF first uses the native share sheet and then offers an optional Documents copy. Share uses the share sheet without that additional download-specific prompt. A browser may instead offer its own download or file-sharing controls.
Try this first
- Open the invoice and correct any validation message shown by BillPad.
- Choose Download PDF once and wait for the share sheet.
- Complete the chosen sharing action.
- If prompted Also save this PDF to Documents?, confirm only if you want that additional copy.
Possible causes
The invoice may fail validation or contain characters outside the bundled PDF fonts. Native filesystem or sharing services may also fail after the PDF is generated. BillPad then reports that native PDF sharing or saving failed and tries a browser download.
Not seeing a Documents copy after using Share is different from a failed Download PDF action. The additional save is offered only in the Android download flow, after sharing. Available destinations depend on the apps installed on your device.
Fix the problem
- Read the exact error before retrying. Fix an invalid field rather than repeatedly tapping the same action.
- For font-related errors, use the unsupported-characters guide below.
- Retry Download PDF and complete the share sheet. If offered, confirm the Documents save and check for Saved to Documents.
- Open the saved file and verify its invoice number and contents before sending.
- If the fallback downloaded a file instead, locate that copy and attach it manually in your chosen app.
Do not reinstall or clear the app's data while it contains your only editable records. Export a backup first if you need to restart or investigate storage. A successful file save does not mean the client has received it, and it does not mark money as paid.
