BillPad's bundled PDF fonts support Latin text and common punctuation. If a document contains an unsupported character, export stops with an error identifying the affected field. This avoids silently producing a PDF with missing or unreadable characters.
Try this first
- Read the complete export error and note the named field.
- Check that field in Details, including seller/client details and line descriptions.
- Look for an emoji, a symbol copied from another app or text in another script.
- Keep the correct original wording available before changing any name or description.
Possible causes
The PDF generator checks the document's text against its bundled font coverage. A name, address, note, payment instruction, line description or unit can contain a character outside that set. Being able to see the text in the browser preview does not guarantee that the downloaded PDF's fonts support it.
The error begins “PDF export supports Latin text and common punctuation with the bundled fonts.” It then recommends Print for other scripts or replacing the unsupported character in the identified field. Changing the invoice template does not install a new font family or add support for arbitrary scripts.
Fix the problem
- If the character is accidental, correct the indicated field without changing the document's meaning.
- If it is essential to the correct name or description, try Print as directed by the error instead of removing important information.
- Inspect the print preview and any resulting saved PDF for complete, readable text.
- If using Download PDF again, check whether another field also contains an unsupported character.
- Open the final file before sending it to the client.
Do not assume that a missing character is harmless in an account name, address or payment instruction. A transliteration should only be used when it accurately represents what you intend to send. Print output depends on the fonts and print facilities available on the device.
Still stuck
Email [email protected] with the error and a fictional example of the affected character or script. Mention whether Print worked; you do not need to send the complete invoice to explain a font issue.
