Import from Wave

Export Wave records and review the supported fields, dates and format limitations.

Wave's accounting.csv is a ledger, not an invoice export. BillPad's Wave invoice profile is provisional. Use an invoice report with suitable fields, or prepare a generic CSV, rather than treating ledger entries as whole invoices.

How to export from Wave

  1. In Wave, find a report or export that contains invoice records and export as CSV if available.
  2. Check for invoice number, customer, issue date, due date, total and amount due.
  3. If your available export is only accounting.csv, use the generic mapping guide to prepare invoice records from suitable source information before importing.

Import into BillPad

  1. Make a backup through Settings, Export backup if this workspace already contains records.
  2. Choose Start import under Switch to BillPad and select Invoices.
  3. Select Wave as guidance, then use Choose file.
  4. Inspect Match columns. Required invoice fields are number, date, client and either total or line rate/amount.
  5. Confirm the date order if prompted, compare totals and paid amounts, then approve the reviewed import.

Check the source fields

Expected invoice headers include Invoice Number, Customer, Invoice Date, Due Date, Status, Product, Description, Quantity, Price, Tax, Total, Amount Due and Currency.

Line columns, when available, allow lines to group into invoices. A summary report cannot recreate details absent from the export. Wave product/service files should be imported as Products. Items explicitly marked Sell this=No are skipped, and purchasing settings are not imported as sales features. Check tax treatment and currency independently of the detected app badge.

Good to know

The profile's fallback is MM/DD dates and USD currency. Ambiguous numeric dates still require your explicit confirmation. Prefer an explicit currency column over relying on that fallback, especially for international work.

CSV and the first XLSX worksheet are supported, within 5 MB and 5,000 rows. Imported invoices do not trigger reminders or late fees. Existing documents count towards the 100-document limit.

If your file does not import, email a redacted example to [email protected], or use the generic CSV option and match the columns manually. Do not send passwords, sign-in links or unnecessary customer information. Keep the original export until you have compared several imported records with the source.
