Choose an invoice currency

Set a default or document currency without converting the amounts you have entered.

BillPad supports AUD, USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, NZD, INR, KWD and JPY in the invoice currency selector. You can work with clients in different currencies, but changing a currency does not convert prices or look up an exchange rate.

Set the default

  1. Open Settings and find Invoice defaults.
  2. Choose Default currency.
  3. Review your tax and payment details so they make sense with that currency.
  4. Choose Save settings.
  5. Create a new invoice and confirm that Currency has the expected value.

Change one document

  1. Open the invoice and go to Details.
  2. Choose Currency before adding prices or recording payments.
  3. Check every Rate, any fixed deposit and any payment schedule after a change.
  4. Inspect the preview and the total before sending.

The message beneath the selector says Changing currency keeps entered amounts. A rate entered as 100 remains 100 when you change from AUD to USD. If you agreed a converted price with your client, enter that agreed amount yourself.

Good to know

Australian GST mode requires AUD. If you need another currency, review the tax mode as part of changing the document. Do not leave an Australian GST document with inconsistent currency and tax settings.

Saved item rates are inserted using the current invoice's currency. The item picker does not convert a catalogue price from one currency to another. Check the resulting rate when reusing an item for an overseas client.

Reports keep currencies separate. A total in one currency should not be added to another currency's total as though they were interchangeable. When reviewing an imported file, check its currency column and any fallback currency in the preview. Missing currency information is especially easy to overlook when several exports use the same dollar symbol.
