A BillPad JSON backup keeps the editable workspace together. Use it before changing browsers, importing records or making major corrections. A PDF or report CSV is useful for reading and sharing, but it is not a replacement for a full workspace backup.
Export the workspace
- Open Settings and find Backup & restore.
- Choose Export backup.
- Save the downloaded JSON file somewhere you can find again.
- Keep a separate copy before replacing or clearing your browser data.
Signed-in account controls also offer Export data. This downloads the workspace backup, including the records available on this device. If you are investigating sync conflicts, keep the exported copy before resolving them.
Restore carefully
- Export the current workspace first if it contains anything you want to keep.
- In Settings, choose Restore backup.
- Select a valid BillPad JSON backup.
- Read the confirmation: restoring replaces the current local workspace rather than merging two arbitrary backups.
- Confirm only when you intend that replacement, then review the restored invoices, clients, items and profile.
The file is checked for valid structure and supported values. If it is rejected, keep the original unchanged and send support the error text. Editing an unfamiliar backup by hand can make recovery harder.
Export individual datasets
For a client or product list, use the options menu in Clients or Items and choose Export CSV or Export Excel. Reports offers Export CSV and Download PDF for the selected report view. Individual invoices and quotes offer Download PDF.
Good to know
A downloaded backup contains the business and client details you entered. Store it with the same care as your other business records. Exporting does not erase the workspace, and signing out does not erase its local copy either.
If a storage warning says changes exist only in the open page, export before closing or reloading. Check the downloaded file exists before taking any action that removes local data.
