Saved clients reduce repeated typing and give you a place to review the client's account. A client record contains contact details; an invoice keeps the details selected for that document. Check both when a business changes its address or email.
Add a client
- Open Clients.
- Choose Add client.
- Enter the client's name and the available email, phone, address and tax details.
- Review any payment terms offered by the form.
- Choose Save client.
You can also fill in Bill to while creating an invoice and use Save as new client. Before saving another entry, search your existing clients so you do not split one business's history across duplicate records.
Reuse and update details
Start typing the client's name in the invoice's Client or company name field and select the matching saved client. Review the populated contact details before sending, particularly Email.
To correct the saved record, open Clients, find the client and use its edit action. Choose Save client after making changes. Updating the saved client does not rewrite historical invoice snapshots. If an unsent invoice needs the new address, review that invoice directly.
Import or export contacts
The Clients options menu includes Import file, Export CSV, Export Excel and Download template. For an export from another invoicing app, use Switch to BillPad in Settings and select Clients.
The import preview shows new and existing matches. Matching uses email first, then normalised name. Skip keeps existing records; Update changes matched fields while preserving the record identity. Review the selected policy before confirming.
Good to know
A contact import does not bring across opening balances. Import the relevant invoices and payment history through the invoice flow if you need those records represented in BillPad. Keep the source export until you have checked the client's account and any outstanding amounts after the move.
