Turn automatic payment reminders on or off

Choose reminder days for emailed invoices and understand which documents are skipped.

Needs a signed-in account. Automatic reminders send a short email about an invoice that is due soon, due today or overdue. The controls appear in Settings for signed-in accounts where the feature is available. The public pricing page still describes reminders as coming soon during rollout.

Choose the reminder days

  1. Open Settings and find Payment reminders.
  2. Select Send automatic reminders.
  3. In Days relative to the due date, enter whole numbers separated by commas.
  4. Choose Save reminders and check the status message.
  5. To stop future automatic reminders, clear Send automatic reminders and choose Save reminders again.

Negative numbers mean days before the due date, zero means the due date and positive numbers mean days overdue. For example, -3, 0, 7, 14 requests reminders three days before, on the due date, seven days after and fourteen days after. Use up to eight offsets within the supported range of -30 to 90 days.

Which invoices receive reminders

An invoice must have an active hosted link and a successful BillPad email-send event. Copying a link alone is not enough. Reminders go to the recipient of the last successful invoice email, not automatically to a newly edited client email address.

Paid, archived, imported, void and zero-balance invoices are skipped, as are quotes and credit notes. The reminder checks current financial data so a recorded payment can stop further reminders once the balance is cleared.

Good to know

Reminder days use UTC calendar dates, not a promised local delivery time. A missed day is not backfilled with a backlog of old reminders. The schedule is based on the invoice due date, not each individual instalment date.

Use Delivery activity and Refresh activity to inspect reminder events. Turning reminders off does not remove emails already delivered. If you need to change the recipient, send the invoice successfully to the correct address and review the resulting delivery history before relying on the next automatic reminder.
